Pride in Costuming

So finally, FINALLY I have some of my work from my school's production of Pride and Prejudice. Ok. The drawings are done by my boss <-- and I took his renderings and constructed the actual costumes.

I'm going to try to blog again. At least over break.

I've got a big ol' stack o' fabric just waiting for me to cut and construct.
I was looking at shorts patterns online today. And then I went and bought some already-made ones. For $5. I wanted some to wear winter-style with tights and my super-sweet new boots :-P

In other news: I got a new lens! Woohoo! I got the Canon 50mm f/1.8. I've been wanting one with a larger aperture for a long time and I finally found the one I wanted. I don't want you, Dear Anna, to think I was copying, I just really wanted it! Haha!

PS: I've been reading through the life of Christ via a bible plan app on my iPhone. I love love loved going through Ephesians and 1st John during Winterfest this past week but I feel like we aren't taught from the Gospels very often. I guess people figure that everyone already knows all there is to know in the Gospels. But honestly, I think I may know more from Philippians and 1st John that Mathew or Luke.

Wow. Lemme just say that I haven't had a lot of time to blog. obviously. Haha.
I've been working on costumes, ceramics, and photography like crazy!
But I love it. That's what I do. :-)

I'd like to show you some of my photography!

These aren't any of my final projects (My teacher has those right now).
These are just fun ones I developed.

ANDREA! There are a lot of stupid scratches or lint on the enlarger lens :-( but, personally, I looooove it!

Me and Sarah. Ashton actually took this one. A few of her pictures got a little messed up somewhere along the line but I thought this looked freakin' sweet so I went ahead and developed it (we have 50 extra 5x7 pieces of paper so I'm free to do this! Haha)

HELLO there. Summer is almost over. two weeks 'till I'm back at SBU.

Tattoos are weird because sometimes I'm like "why not? Your body is like, the perfect canvas for beautiful, meaningful art!" then sometimes I'm like "people will think I'm bad" and "is it wrong?" and "will I be respected?"

Tomorrow will be an exciting day on the creativity level!
We are gonna do a Super Sweet Annual Summer Photo Shoot!
My fave.
I'm in charge of the costumes and photography.
Yeah, it's been fun gathering and cutting and sewing and destroying.
We're gonna have two sides of the photoshoot: Light and Dark; Pure and Dirty; Innocent and Corrupt.

So, I'm excited! Unfortunately I won't be able to get pictures up until next weekend because I will be away at Jr. Camp. I am going as a girl's councilor. It's gonna be interesting. But fun. I hope. :-)

WELL. This past week I've been working at Chatham's VBS and it was gooood. Sad that it's over but also thankful because on Friday I was SO tired! haha. I was trying to muster up enough energy for the kids but it was hard.

On Thursday we made Pringles can pinhole viewer and it is AWESOME. basically it's just a Pringles can with a tiny pinhole at the end with a piece of thin plastic on the can and you see this little image reflected upside down. It's hard to explain. Look it up online I guess. It's kinda like a pinhole camera without taking pictures.
Well, I got creative and stuck my camera inside the can and took a picture of the image.

Let me tell you about a place...

Bequia is a small island off the coast of St. Vincent in the Caribbean Sea. The island is full of breath-taking views and beauty that screams of God’s Glory. The island is small and has a population of about 5,000 people. The Sea is SO blue and a fresh, salty breeze stirs the thick heat. Houses are scattered along the steep and winding roads, all painted bright colors: blue, coral, yellow, teal…matching the flowers and the sky and the sea.

Children play in the streets as old men sit and chat and watch cars go by. Goats wonder the hillsides, rarely loosing their footing on the rocky terrain. Dogs run looses, trying to catch a scrap of food. Small sailboats with their tall, tall masts piercing the sky rock in the bay.

Brightly colored fish swim amongst the coral while an octopus keeps watch. The sand is almost black from volcanic rock and mixes with the bright green bottle shards that have been polished smooth by the sea. An open-air bar and grill blares reggae music and can be heard through the trees. The waves lap softly at the beach while the salty spray coats my skin. A trumpet is playing quietly somewhere down the street.

A white picket fence runs along part of the road that leads into town. Taxi vans clog the parking lots and their drivers ask us if we need a ride. Men call to each other and they call to us. Shops with no names line the road, beckoning me with their new and different merchandise. The grocery store is small and crowded and hot with people milling about. We struggle to get to the cooler to get a drink. A t-shirt stand is set up, expecting tourists to by their over-priced merchandise.

A weird but refreshing drink is brought to me and I can feel the cool tingle slide all the way down. The heat is exhausting but it’s only half-way through the trip. In a few hours we’ll be going to a little church on this little island to teach the little kids the greatest thing we know and ever will know.

"Yeah," I think, "This is what I was made for. I could do this for a long, long time."

No. 1 Bequia live (our fundraiser concert) went really well monetarily and such. I have quite a few talented friends.

Hello!

Anna, Emily, and I went out and took pictures! I got a bunch of white fabric at Leftovers Etc. you know and so we took some pictures with that. And they did some super sweet makeup. So it was fun. We went outside at the perfect time for the sunlight. And I learned some new tricks on my little free Photoshop demo.

Hello!
I had a lovely day sewing with Mrs. Terri and Beth and Grace! We went and scoured the Joann's that's moving for about 10 hours and then went back to my house and sewed skirts for Bequia. Actually, Mrs. Terri made pajamas (what??) and I made a homeschool-mom-on-vacation-to-the-beach dress. But I quite like it. Or will whenever it's done. haha!

OK. Project.
Oh how the sound of that word excites me so.
I am going to take one of Alice's AMAZING dresses in Tim Burton's new movies and make it!
BUT I'm going to make it modern and wearable. Not that these aren't wearable. Just not to shopping or to church or anything. ha! Like, I wanna still have the quirky, Tim Burton-ness in the dress, just.....toned down a tad. And with less poof. All of these dresses have some serious poof.

So, I have some options:

Hello!
Blogging is hard when you haven't really done much! haha.

But I have been reading this lovely book:It's deadly haunting and beautifully written and holy cow the imagery is so amazing it kept me up shaking under my covers last night!

I've realized that i get a lot more scared reading books than i do watching movies. Movies show you the horror exactly how it should be seen, no scarier, no room for imagination. But in books you imagine the horror however scary your brain can imagine, you imagine it the scariest that it would be for you. So, i get scared reading books. because i have a big imagination.

BUT! Me and my friends have been wanting to do an underwater photo shoot and we finally did! With balloons! It was fun.

Also, I found an old journal of mine from camp a long time ago and I wrote the beginning of a novel in it. Well, it was good. Really good. Well, parts. I argued, or my character argued about God and love and belief in the first few pages and it got me thinking. (Summer gives you a lot of time to think) I think my views on faith and God and love have changed (for the better I think) since I wrote that. It's interesting to see how much I've grown.
I'm in college now for goodness sakes.

PS: I discovered today that I like metal bobbins WAY better that plastic ones. and I'm running out of serger thread but it's like, at least $3 for each spool of that stuff and I cannot spend that kinda money at this point in my life.

Dear friends,
first off I would like to say that I am truly sorry for being a lame blogger as of late.
Secondly, I would like to tell you about these past few days of my first year of college.

HOLY COW! I'm almost not a freshman any more! This year has been so great. SO great. Thanks to all of my amazing, kind, and beautiful friends here.
I feel like I've grown a lot.

Well, I met some people in the past three or so weeks. They are awesome. I'm just sad that we didn't meet earlier. They invited me and my friends to their bible study. Here we are:
(I've never felt more like a nerdy white girl before...but they didn't kick me out, so I guess it's ok)

These guys are mostly on the SBU football team. This bible study was started by a few guys and grew really big in just four weeks. They were talking about loving God with everything and loving people. They talked about going back to all of their friends and accountability and leading by example. They discussed lusting and what it means to really love people and fight for the Kingdom. Praise God! I love these boys. God has given us such a sweet opportunity to build relationships with them. I don't know exactly where it's all going but I'm excited to see and I'm going to be praying hard for them this summer.

Also: FINALS! I'm killin' them! My "hardest" took me 11 minutes and I knew almost every answer. I'm a genious.

Next: my new roommate! I'm finally excited about my roommate situation! We are perfect for eachother! Best roommate forever. (BRF)

Hello. Easter break was fantastic.

As is my family. Please admire:This is just so us. My family is the best! I think this should seriously be our Christmas card.

Well, in other news. Yesterday was GLORIOUS weather so Ashton, Sarah, Sarah, and I went out to enjoy the weather. Ashton and I biked while the Sarahs Rip-Sticked. We had so much fun! And a good Christian band was doing an outdoor concert then so it was just cool.

Well, Ashton and I went for a spin around the parking lot. And I, being the reckless daredevil that I am, decided to pull a sweet bike stunt.

Well, long story short: I ate it.

I was sprawled face first on the asphalt before I even knew what happened. And then I jumped up to see if anyone saw. How embarrassing. Haha! But I broke (It's easily fixable, Dad!!) my bike and busted my knee pretty badly.

So I've been limp-walking around campus today with a big 'ol bandage on my knee trying to act casual and feeling a little hardcore. I mean, you know me, I don't like attention all that much but i thoroughly enjoy telling people about my "cycling incident". Haha.

I'm might have a scar for life which sucks but at least I didn't have to get stitches. Or have anything broken. Or die

Hello. Spring break has been good. I just love seeing everyone! And hopefully tomorrow we can have a serious picnicking in a park. I love picnics. You have no idea.
I was really stressed out at the beginning of my break so I got sick. Stupid, huh? I literally worried myself sick. God says that worrying is a sin. Well, I'm a sinner. and guess what, so are you.

My birthday was two days ago. Jannah came to visit me. I am happy. :-D
We went down to Springfield for the art walk and lemme tell you....it was difficult. Now, apparently the art walk in down town Springfield is a big deal. Joanna drove the car I was in and she's from the country-ish meaning big city, tight spaces driving is not her forte. We could not find a parking spot fro the life of us! We ended up parking in a narrow, creepy, and dark parking garage and walking a million miles to the city square. Ha! But it was fun. We ended up at a sweet coffee lounge and just sat and talked and laughed for a while. I really love my friends here and I'm glad Jannah got to meet everyone and live my life for a few days.

I'm tired of mediocrity.

Ian posted the 99 Balloons video on his blog.

It's so beautiful.

I've been making conscious effort lately to be nice.
Smiling at people, talking to people I barely know but would like to know, helping people, looking scary people in the eye, remembering people's names...it's a process. Honestly, even smiling takes a lot of effort for me some days. But, doesn't it make you feel a little better inside when someone just smiles really brightly at you?

I'm still working at it. For instance today I passed up a perfect opportunity to talk to someone I haven't talked to in a while just becasue I was scared he'd think I was flirting. Me? Flirt? haha. Arg. I think I'm not nice to some boys because I'm so afraid of coming off as flirty. Which is stupid, I'm finding. I mean, who's scared of being flirty? Lil' old homeschooled me.

Well. at church last Sunday the speaker was talking about how we should all focus on others this week and just do selfless acts of love every day.

So here goes!

I wish I had something cool and interesting to show you. But I don't. Just words today.

Hello. I just haven't really felt like blogging much lately. Sadly. 'Cause I used to love love love doing it.
But anyway, I've been watching Masterpiece Theater's new Emma! it's REALLY good. I still think Gweneth Paltrow was a better Emma and the original Mr. Knightly was a little better also but it's still a great show. Hm. Watch it. :-)

Well, in other news, one of my favorite designers ever is dead.
Alexander McQueen was brilliant!
He committed suicide and he shouldn't have. Because he needs to keep creating his great art. ARG! why are all brilliant artists tortured artists?

I don't think I'm a tortured artists, not yet anyway. Haha. Sculpting is fun and messy. I don't really talk to anyone in there and I'm really intimidated. But one of my friends from design class last semester told me that I was really good. Whatever.

So, here I am, supposed to be cleaning my room for room checks!
So off I go.

Oh, but firsts, Coach from Survivor last year is on again this year. Yeah, yeah, who cares right?

I just got back from Florida last night. I had some fun in the sun. And even though there was record-breaking lows in Orlando, it was still warmer than St. Louis! I was just glad to miss the 10 degree temperatures. I was sick the whole time but it was nothing new. I just can't seem to shake this dang cough. It sucks. But the worst part is my back! It aches like an arthritic old man's.

But, lemme tell you, I had a great time with my grandparents and awesome aunt (that's for you, Aunt Julie :-). )! I'll definitely be posting pictures once I get them all edited. Arg. It's going to take a while. I just need to sit down and do it!

Ok. Well, obviously I haven't really been spending too much time on my costume lately but I did do a little today.
I made this little belt. I'm ditching the quilted one I made. I just didn't like it and it didn't look all that great anyway.

And here's a detail picture of the bottom of those pants I made. I hope they don't look to dorky under the dress and all. We'll just have to see!

I'm hoping to take Grace out to get some pictures this weekend. Does anyone wanna come along?

Nothing that my family does any more will surprise me.
I was talking to Sam the other day while eating dinner and I asked him something in a really weird voice. I didn't really realize that I was doing it. Sam just answered me very mater-o-factly, completely ignoring the fact that I had just been REALLY weird. We stopped for a second and looked at each other. Then Sam said "I didn't even notice." I said "yeah, I think we're just immune to our family's weirdness by now. I mean, nothing that this family does any more would surprise me...well, if Mom got up and started Polka dancing right now, that would surprise me." Then mom looked over at us for a second and then proceed to Polka dance. Ha! And then she looked up Polka dancing on Youtube. And then she looked up Beatboxing.

well. I'm going to Florida. So I won't be updating my blog 'till next Tuesday. So GOODBYE! And good riddance. I need a break from this dang laptop.

But I will be taking TONS of pictures. Because Florida is very photogenic.

And I made this a bit ago for part of Grace's Christmas present. I wanted to make her a camera case and was inspired by some pics I saw on the Internet.

I've made a little progress. Not as much as I'd like though. It looks like I'll be doing the photo shoot after I get back from Florida.

I promised to bring back seashells for everyone. Haha. I am sooooooo excited! We leave Tomorrow evening and will be gone for a week. My grandparents have planed a bunch of stuff for us to do while we're down there including Epcot. So, that makes me happy. I love visiting all of the countries in Epcot. So fun. But they also say it's not that warm down there. Sadly. But anything warmer than this right now will be MUCH welcome.

I re-constructed/altered this shirt to go under the dress (I'm still debating if I want wrist guards or not). It was an ugly mom-turtleneck that I thrifted on Saturday for like, $1.
Well, it looks better in person. It looks wrinkly and weird here. Ah well.

Here are the sleeve things. I re-discovered my old Bedazzler and I LOVE it! haha.

And this afternoon I took a break from the costume and finally whipped up this bag I've been planning on making forever:

It's so pink and girly but I picked out an awesome industrial zipper to toughen it up. Ha! Now it looks more "me". It's a great size and I love it. Love it.

I just love doing projects. And I also love blogging. And taking pictures. I feel like a nerd at times.
Well, last night I got to hang out with people. I went to see Daniel but they were all playing volley ball and, you know me, I don't play volley ball. I play kickball, foursquare, capture the flag....games like that. Haha. Oh well.

Ok so the main thing I've been working on have been the slippers. They are weird. And kinda ugly. But I spent a long time on them so I can't just not use them. Arg.

Here they are. They're actually pretty comfortable except that the right-foot one is a little crooked. But like I said, I won't be climbing any mountains in these.

And this is just a weird little leather thing I made. I think it's going to be a necklace. I just like how it looks.

Me and dad went to Salvation Army yesterday and they were having a New Years Day sale were all the clothes were 1/2 off! At a thrift store, that means you can get clothes for, like 50 cents. And I did. I got a lot of stuff. All for under $10. I am very pleased. One of my favorite item is this skirt:

I just love the print. I am going to do a fashion line this summer (hopefully) and this fabric is definitely going to be a main focus. When my mom found out that I was going to cut it up she was like "you can't do that, it's a Bentley Arbuckle!" and a size four, and a wraparound. Sorry mom, if you know me at all, you'll know I never keep things in their original condition.

Progress?!

So, I said I was going to post some progress of my costume. Well, I've got progress. I've spent the past two afternoons cutting and fabric-gluing my leaf-shapes onto the dress shell. My fingers are all sticky and I've got a scissors blister. Who ever heard of a scissors blister? I guess that's the mark of a true crafter.

Well, I also made this little under-shirt/wrap thing.

Here is a sneak peak at the leaf dress. It's just to good to share yet. I used a bunch of different colors and patterns of blue and black. It's pretty sweet.

Well, I actually started on the shoes. I made them from a moccasin pattern so that's kinda the shape they'll be. I mean, no one's going to go mountain climbing in these.

Well, Christmas was a good day. We had a fire, it snowed, my family is crazy, oh and presents are nice. What can I say?

We were going to have two Chinese girls over to eat Christmas dinner with us but one of the girls was actually a boy so we decided not to take them.
But we did.
We had Chrystal and Andrew.
It was an awkward evening.

Any way.
I figured I was going to be very bored this week so I'm starting a project.

As you may have picked up I have been very interested in costume design and construction.
I also have been very interested (not in love with - it kinda weirds me out) in the Steampunk craze. I also found this blog: http://havinghorns.blogspot.com/ which is also very interesting and inspiring, but also a tad weird. These things and my undying love of Narnia's costumes were the inspiration behind this project. I am making a costume! In my "Projects" folder I have named this folder "WoodlandWhatsit".

Make fun of me or call me a nerd but I like doing this. And my character is going to have horns. So there. I was going to have Grace model my finished product but I don't think she's to keen on the idea so if any (girl) wants to, just tell me.

I started the whole thing by sewing this:

I'm thinking it's my character's long lost lover or something. Gee, I dunno.

This is my final sketch of the dress, I don't want to give it all away but....Oh and I'm going to do a TON of detail and hand stitching (yikes) and I'm going to make shoes. Yes. Shoes.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!"

It took a long time for me but I'm finally feelin' the Christmas spirit! And good thing too because it's Christmas eve! Holy cow.

I just love the Christmas atmosphere. My mom is in the kitchen working on our dinner for tonight and the smells of homemade chicken noodle soup and fresh-out-of-the-oven banana muffins. A fire is crackling behind me and a winter puzzle lays abandoned but not untouched beside me. The presents are wrapped and stuffed under the brightly-lit tree. Tomorrow morning Sam will wake us all up no later than seven and we'll all go tripping down the stairs like little kids to find the undeserved, highly-anticipated gifts waiting for us. Man, I wish we all felt the same about the first Christmas Gift.

Yesterday I tired out a new church. It was good. It was only a bit over an hour long. I really like the church I have been going to for the people but I got more out of the teaching at this new church. I don't know. I'm not too involved in Berean and I could see myself getting more involved in Freshwater. I don't know guys!

In other news: Today is my last day of classes! Then I only have a final on Thursday and two finals on Friday! So I have NOTHING Tuesday or Wednesday! I think those days are going to be crafty crafty crafty!

I just e-mailed Dr. Sartwell to set up a meeting to talk about working for Mr. Shaffer as a campus job. Man, I hope it works out! Otherwise I'll be having a busy schedule and may not be able to even do too much costuming stuff. Because I have to get a job.

Well I'll be home in less than a week, gang. It's gonna be great. Make lists of all the things we should do while I'm home!

Well, I'm sitting here in the computer lab. I just printed off my research paper and boy, does it feel good! It feels like my big giant bowling ball-of-a-heart was replaced by a couple hundred helium balloons. Wanna go flay across the world with me? Haha. Just kidding, I don't think that's possible.

Well, as I write this One of my dear friends is sitting next to me printing off her research paper and the older lady sitting next to her is wearing a big brown snow suit half-zipped playing and extreme session of FarmVill and chatting it up with a buddy on facebook. Haha! I love people.

Well, after this I'm going to sleep for about a year and then go along with Sarah to pick out fabric for her mother's skirt. I HAVE to keep myself from buying fabric! I HAVE TO!

And this weekend, starting today and ending Sunday after church Sarah, Sandra, and I are eating only fruits and vegetables. Nothing else. Well, except I had a bowl of Raisin Bran. And Sarah had cheese and ranch on her salad. It's going to be hard. I really don't like healthy food! I only like about 2 different kinds of Vegetables. Arg. Oh well, I head that humans aren't really made to eat meat anyway.

Did you know that carnivores have a really small digestive tract and herbivores have really long ones. Well, guess what, humans have REALLY long digestive tracts. Hm...let that marinate. Oh, I shouldn't talk in food terms. I'm hungry. Haha.

Well, I'm going to Springfield on Saturday with Sarah and possible Ashton and some others. We're going thrift-store shopping!

Right now I'm at my grandparent's house stealing some of their neighbor's WiFi. I woke up at 5:30 this morning to go shopping. I've never done that before. And add a couple thousand people shopping with me, breathing down my neck, running me into the baby bottle section, or stealing the movie I was looking at....yeah, not my favorite experience. But I was with my aunt and cousin and sisters whom I all like a lot so I guess that made it bearable. And we got some great bargains on Christmas presents! Speaking of which.....HOLY COW. Christmas is soon.
Oh and I got 4 really good canvases of $7.50. That's a good bargain. So When I get back I'm gong to paint and make presents! and then go back to college. Because I love college.

Hello. It is 12:00 the night before our first performance. My call time is 8:00 am! I should be asleep. I am tired. But I lay here, typing this so that my dear friends back home may read about the wonderful experiences I am having here in college. I am lying, my head throbbing, smelling of BO and self-tanning lotion trying to keep my eyes open long enough to type out these few words. Oh hoe I wish my brain could formulate coherent thoughts right now. Haha.

Matt (hahahahahahaha you should meet this guy) says I'm a mix between Avril Levine and Hannah Montana. But I'm "not as punk at Avril and not as pop as Hannah". Haha. Then, Jeron finally says "Yes! You're urban pop." My style is urban pop. Oh the joy. I mean it. I'm good with urban. Haha. See ya. My eyes are dead.

Things Are Looking UP

Hi. I've spent the past three nights going to the Crucible play rehearsals 'cause I'm part of the costume crew....or I AM the costume crew. Haha. Pretty much I just make sure everyone has what they need and I make sure everything gets back into place when the play is done and I wash stuff and make repairs and it's great fun. Yeah, I work about 20 minutes at the beginning and then about 20 minutes at the end and then I sit in the freezing cold green room or out in the theater for five hours. FIVE hours. But I'm not complaining because...

Well I was hangin' in the dressing rooms with Dustin (the assistant director/costumer extraordinaire) one night and we started talking about the next play we're going to do: Godspell. Well, he asked me to help him design and build the costumes for it!

"Heck yes!" Says I.

Let me tell you a little bit about Dustin:
He went to college in Kansas City and moved to New York and did costumes for off-Broadway plays there! He worked with amazing people and became amazing himself.
So if I work with Dustin, he'll be able to teach me how to design and draft patterns and build them and holy cow I'm so excited.

Just to sum things up: This is an amazing opportunity!

I have a math test to study for that I'm going to fail.

On Friday night I went to a HAUNTED CORN MAZE!

Oh man.
It was fun.
And funny.
And really scary.
But me and Lindsey just talked to the Creepers and made fun of them and asked for their numbers and it made it REALLY funny! Haha.
There was this one guy who jumped out at us with a Jason mask and chain saw and when he tried to start his chain saw....it didn't work. So we were all cheering him on saying "you can do it!" and such as he tried to make his chain saw work. and when it finally did, we all clapped.
So that's how we coped with the scariness of the maze. It was funny.
Oh then we went to Stake'n'Shake.
and then Rendezvous.
And then collapsed on my bed sooooo tired. It was a long night.
But fun.

For actual Halloween I didn't have anything to do! I was invited to a "party" but I was only going to know a few people and you know me....I'm not a big party person. So Me and Sandra went and got movies and candy (hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm) and watched them all night with Sarah (who was all alone in her room :-( )
It was a success!

I went home for the weekend. And took pictures. Among other things.
I had a lot of fun. I was (am) so GLAD that I got to see Allyson. You have no idea.
And everyone else. Of course. Haha. I liked hug-napping Abby on Sunday. And failing yet again at making a cake with my dear friends on Saturday. Sigh.
I just love my friends. I love them. I love them. I love them. I love them.

Well. Tonight I sat in on The Crucible play rehearsal for three (THREE) hours. Holy cow. It was rough and some of the actors were still forgetting their lines (it's only what, two weeks away?) But let me tell you, it was GOOD. There are some freaky good actors in that group. Like, they really got into their character. And the story-line is crazy - have you read it?
The main guy's wife is played by a freshman whose in my English class. In the last scene when her husband gets hung (oh, sorry, did I ruin the ending?) she cries. The character cries. But the actor is REALLY crying. Like, real tears. And the three actors getting hung are singing this song to Jesus, silhouetted by a blood red light and then the director gets up and tells the cast to all gather around and it's over. And the actress wipes her tears and skips over to center stage.
Crazy.

and I'm going to go to sleep now because I am SO tired and I have a quiz in Design that I haven't really studied for. Well that's all.

Well, when Kelli came (YAY) we went and saw this movie with some girls on my hall:

Well. The cinematography was amazing.
The music was so good.
The sets were stunning.
The actually movie/storyline was a disaster. It seemed like an insane person wrote the script. Maybe one did. I don't know. It went from being depressing to being more depressing. And confusing. and pointless. Oh, and don't let kids under the age of 10 see this movie because they will grow up with a twisted view of life.
Which is dumb.

On another note, I like this show. A lot:

I'm on season 2! My roomie has them all except the latest one.

I discovered that I want to go out and preach the Gospel because I love people, not because I love God.
Hm.
Think about this.

I'm figuring out my schedule for next semester and let me tell you, it's gonna STINK! I'm taking New Testament, Government, Intro to art, Introductory Sociology, Critical thinking, more. These are all really hard pop quiz type classes. I've been doing good in my classes now but I don't have a lot because Honors Comp is worth double credit hours! Arg.

But on the bright side: I'll either be taking a photography class or a sculpture class! yay.

Oh and my BFF, Kelli (:-D) is coming in a few short hours.

I cannot stop listening to Lecrae. He is SO good. This is rap, yes. People say rap is bad. A bad influence. If you listen to rap you'll grow up to be a criminal. Well, this guy's lyrics are a million times better than most other "Christian" artists. This guy sings the Gospel in each one of his songs. It's more inspiring than anything I've ever listened to.

Go listen to him. Now.

Mondays:
I really like school......?
I like my Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes because they're shorter and full of cool people. I like my drawing class (except today: STUPID BOX) becasue everyone is so funny and I love drawing. And my math class....well....let's skip talking about that. and then my English in class everyone is so funny. And I don't think they know they're funny and I think it's only me that thinks they're funny. You know how that is. I find myself laughing to myself a lot in there.

Tuesday:
Girls climb for free!
I've been really into climbing lately! It's just so much fun! I went with Brittany and Mikayla to girl's climb night last Tueday and we were the only three there. This guy, Jason was helping us climb better (I can now belay without freaking out! The trick is to do it left-handed, who woulda thought?) So, anyway. About half of the school thinks Jason is a jerk and the other half really like him. I thought he was pretty cool. We'll see. Maybe I shouldn't talk about real-life people by name in here. You never know who reads things on the internet!!

I LOVE WORSHIP!
I usually go alone (sad day). So I just go in and sit wherever. It's kinda freeing just to go alone. Well, I ended up sitting with my friend Will and when we broke off for prayer I prayed with him and one of his friends, Michael. Well, I really appreciate strong christian guys. I think we take them for granted and we fail to tell them how much we appreciate them.

I mean, how do you encourage them without being awkward or looking like you're flirting? Arg. So, all those Christian guys that read this (haha) You are GREAT!

Everyone is always so funny and excited on Fridays.

There are only going to be a few girls on my hall this weekend to we're all going to hang out and be friends. Last night I talked to some girls on my hall and then my suite mates for a long time. It was really good.

So. A lot as has been going on. There's a lot to tell so ask me in person sometime. I've just been making a lot of really good friends and stuff.

I went to The Vine at MSU two nights ago. We worshiped Jesus and the speaker spoke about how God does not see our dirty, disgusting sin but only sees Christ's righteousness. So stop beating yourself up about your sin and focus on glorifying GOD, victory over sin will come next. I love it. I'm going next week.

Also, last night I went down to the "mini chapel" (I don't know the official name for it.) and worshiped down there. I also loved that.

So. I pretty much am a BIG fan of standing with my brothers and sisters in Christ and just singing praises to God. I forget how cute the guy next to me is and forget how cold I am and forget the big tests next week and just praise Jesus. I may not know who I'm sitting next to or I may not even know the song, but I sing at the top of my lungs and OH, how good it feels.

Oh, I'm going to Silver Dollar City this Saturday for free. Pretty cool, huh?

And my new favorite snack is chocolate animal crackers dipped in marshmallow fluff, thanks Lindsey!

And I just creeped on Brandi (haha)

And I didn't get enough sleep last night but I don't have band so I can sleep then.

And I just....I'm just really happy.

But pray that I could find really close friends to really talk to and get vulnerable with because I had that back home, but here I don't really have it. And I need it and I miss it.

And pray that I figure out how to write an essay. Haha. Oh, homeschooling.

That reminds me, we were in the van on the way to the Vine and I taught Heather the "Rainbows Over You, God's Blessed Vow" song. Haha. And then I taught them all the CoolAid song. And someone was like, "where do you get these from" and someone else was like, "she's homeschooled!"

Ha! I laughed really hard.

And then the guy behind me was like "well, I went to public school because I actually wanted to interact with real kids. "

Hahahaha.

Jerk.

I sure told him.

Hi.
Well. Yesterday I spent six hours sewing. I was helping my suite mate, Lindsey sew a dress. So we sat out in the lobby and blared the music and sewed. It was fun. And long. Haha. We went through three CDs of Coldplay, Leeland, and Owl City. And then my laptop died. But just then some people started watching the first X-Men movie in the lobby so we kinda went back and forth watching that.

Then I watched Yes Man (funny, funny) with Mikayla. While we were watching, her roommate barges in and started telling Mikayla and I everything that had happened in the last two days of her life: boy trouble, girl trouble, and mean bosses. Oh man. She's CRAZY! But I like her. :-) And then they went to go work out and then watch One Tree Hill (they are OBSESSED) so I went down stares and watched PUSH (second movie of the day. yeah, yeah, it's college.) with some (awesome) girls on my hall.

I love my hall. All of the girls are so cool and kind. We went to a picnic in the park on Thursday with them. Sandra (my suite mate) to pictures of us for our hall and our doors. Then I went to the Bradley Hathaway show on the Forum. I love his songs. So much. I don't really like watching him preform his poems - it's kinda weird - but his songs are really good. he is fantastic at writing those poems and lyrics.

After the concert/thing my family - group 16 - all watched a movie (Hot Rod) together. They make me laugh SO much! I love them all so much. They are just so not like anyone I have ever known. I keep trying to think of who people here remind me of back home but I can't because everyone here is new and different. I'm just meeting so many new people that I just can't handle it! JK. I can. :-)

I was helping a guy knit today at lunch. He's crazy. He spent the night with a couple other people in down town Springfield last night pretending to be homeless and talking to homeless people and sharing their faith.

Hi.
It was Rachel's birthday yesterday so some of us took her out to eat and then to a movie. Well. The movie theater here only has 4 theaters and they rotate their movies. Well. It turns out that last night was when they were playing all of the R rated movies except G. I. Joe. So that's what we saw. Pretty much it was a bunch of future army men killing each other. Sure there was a some-what creative plot and some comic relief but I pretty much had it all figured out by the second cat fight.

And tonight I'm going to a picnic (If the weather permits it) in the park and then take pictures with my hall! Yay! I love my hall. And then, well, I get to see a pretty awesome guy. Bradley Hathaway is playing on the Forum. So that's cool.

And then our "family" is having a movie night.

And then I'm going to sleep. Hm. That sounds so good. Well. What are you doing tonight?

hi. Sorry to bore you with another word-only post.

College is fun. I hung out with my roomie and her friends all night. We went to the gym and "worked out". Yup. I rode 13 miles on a bike. I've never worked out before. Never officially. It. Was. Awesome. I can feel the burn! And all the guys were thinking "who is that girl looking all tough on that bike over there?"

Walmart doesn't have the new Imogen Heap CD. I was really sad.

I tried out for chair placements today. It was a breeze.

I think I'm going to a drive-in movie at a church tomorrow night. Free rootbeer floats? I'm so there.
I drew a picture of my window for art class. Hahaha.

Did I mention that college is fun?

Hi.
1. The water here in my dorm is backwards. You have to turn it to the right to get hot water. Crazy, I know.
2. So. I'm in band. I didn't really know that. I wasn't expecting it to be like that at all. BUT I get to play bass clarinet!! YAY!!! And chair placements are this Thursday. Hahaha.....not ready. At least the music is super easy. And about half of our hall is in band. Haha. We were so cool walking to class today.
3. My RA is so the best.
4. Metro Station? I think I like them.
5. I've never been to Springfield before this week but I've gone three times already!
6. One of my sweet mates looks so much like Margarite Corra.
7. One of my group mates is friends with Katie and Canaan on facebook. Beth! I think her boyfriends is that Mike guy you were telling me about. Hm. There a lot of crazy connections here.
8. There's a guy in our group who looks exactly like Nevil Longbottom except skinnier! OMG

Last day of Welcome Week

Hi.

We went to Put Put in Springfield last night. I rode down with Brittany and Mikayla and Will. We shared our testimonies while we drove the 40 minute drive down there. That's so cool.

It's weird. I've been hanging out with my friends all day. And I have so much freedom. I don't have to tell anyone where I'm going or who I'm with (they're all good, trustworthy people...well...most....hahahahaha). For instance we were eating and Rachel, Mikayla, JJ, Will, and I just decided to go to Walmart. So we did. I mean, it's not a big deal - going to Walmart - but I don't know. I just did what I wanted to right then and there.

Now, I know, I know I won't be able to do all that when classes start. But I will still have friends to hang out with just a text away. That's so cool to me.

NOW: I still really miss my home friends and I really look forward to seeing them again.

But. I think. I have to. move. on?

DON'T WORRY! I STILL LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't ever think I don't. Because I do. Just don't expect phone calls or letters or e-mails from me every second. Because I really need to immerse myself in SBU to get all I can out of it. They said so in the "Speaker Session No. 2".

I guess it's just different during Welcome Week. Once I settle in to a routine and all you'll all hear from me more often. I promise! Ha.
